Top 6 KTVs in Singapore

Karaoke is one of the most popular activities in Singapore. From the youths to the silver generation, it is an activity that everyone enjoy with their friends and family. Even the tone deaf can grab the mic and sing, though I think they wouldn't be very popular with their friends! Facts about karaoke that you may not know: Karaoke originated from Japan and actually means "Empty Orchestra" in Japanese. And the most popular song requested worldwide as of 2014 is Billie Jean by Michael Jackson!

In Singapore, the KTVs carry songs in many different languages, including the popular Kpop songs.  What I always find funny are the cheesy unofficial MVs of some songs that do not have official MVs! Laughing at the MVs are definitely a part of the fun of karaoke. Singing at a KTV is definitely stress-relieving and even therapeutic, you sing when you celebrate something joyous, you sing when you are sad or troubled. So where do you usually sing at in Singapore? BQ lists down the most popular Top 6 KTVs in Singapore!

1. TEO HENG KTV

Teo Heng has been expanding fast, with 8 outlets currently (latest one just opened at Ci Yuan CC, Hougang). This popular no-frills KTV is always in demand, and you have to book at least a few days to a week in advance especially if you are planning to sing during the peak periods like Friday and Saturday nights. The hourly rates are very affordable from $8 per hour during off peak for the smallest room (max. 4 pax) to $20 per hour during peak for the largest room (max. 10 pax). That's only $2 per person per hour if you have 10 pax! They also have 3-hour packages which are even more affordable. Drinks and snacks can be purchased at their reception at your own choice. It is great for families and students due to its no alcohol and smoking policies. It will not be a good place to hold parties though due to this reason and also that the largest room can only hold 10 people.

Plus points:
  • No hidden additional costs/simple pricing system
  • Very affordable hourly rates
  • No alcohol and smoking policies great for students and families

Minus points:
  • Need to book in advance unless during off peak periods
  • Touch screen menu screen a bit hard to use
  • Cannot accommodate more than 10 people

Branches:
  •  8 - Junction 10, Katong, NTU Alumni Club, Sembawang, Rendezvous - Grand Hotel, Suntec City, Jcube, Ci Yuan CC

One of the earliest chain KTVs in Singapore, Party World KTV has the gauziest "traditionally" decorated KTV rooms. Their rooms are big and great for a party for a special occasion. They also serve a wide range of drinks, including alcoholic drinks and snacks. They have 8 branches spread around Singapore so you will definitely find one most convenient to you. They also open till late (some up till 6am) so the partygoers or the hardcore singers can sing to their hearts' contents. Pricing is definitely pricier than the no-frills KTVs, however, students can look out for promotions for them during off peak periods, SAFRA members also get up to 20% off and even Groupon deals from time to time. There's also a lifetime membership that you can sign up which entitles you to 10% discount (terms & conditions apply) at a one time fee of $10.

Similarly as Party World KTV, they serve the full experience of a KTV, with food and drinks and late closing. They even have buffet dinners at 2 of their bigger branches located at Cineleisure and Marina Square. The price of the full KTV experience is not cheap, however, they often have deals at Groupon and Deal.com.sg which you can look out for. You can also stay updated on their promotions at BQ.sg here.

By the name alone, you know that this KTV is no-frills and very affordable. Reservations are advised to be made in advance as this place is very popular due to the low pricing of $10++ per pax with free flow drinks (non alcoholic) for up to 5 hours. However, you need a group of at least 3 to get a room and there is also a strict dress code to adhere to: no shorts, bermudas, singlets, sleeveless T-shirts, slippers and sandals, unless you want to hide in the room throughout your session. Outside food is allowed but for drinks, you can only order theirs (free flow anyway!). There are 3 branches and they open till 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Cash Studio KTV is priced around mid-range, slightly above the no-frills KTVs (around $20 per person per session). There are 5 branches, however they are located slightly out of the way compared to other KTVs. The decor of the rooms are very colourful and big but dimly lit.
