one of our favourite brands (and yours), London Undercover is here to save you from rainy days.
designer jamie milestone founded london undercover in 2008 to reverse umbrella to its rightful position as a fashion accessory. the fine materials the brand uses are rarely seen on umbrellas nowadays. their whangee bamboo and wood crafted handles, 10-ribbed structure and leather fastener are the details that speak quality.
as one of the most popular items in kapok, we are glad to have them re-stocked
! this time we have both long and folded umbrellas with even more colors available.

new visual theme | supports / surfaces
kapok’s new theme for the season, supports / surfaces, is derived from the brief art movement in 1960s france. a child of its time, the movement embodies the post-may 1968 spirit of free expression and will, giving it a distinctively bold graphic style where artists express their voice through their methods.
this philosophy immediately spoke to us – how every single product is created, how it impacts the user with its qualities and functionalities, how we provide a shopping experience is far more important than a mere impression it gives at first glance. we have recreated this movement in our stores, with colour blocks and bold brush strokes. rich in texture and materials, this theme conveys the simple but important message – methods speak louder than results.
in the array of products we have to offer, we have selected several that embody the same philosophies to introduce to you. take Parasolbag, where the design and making of the bags take in consideration of the limited material so that the colour can be appreciated; VOORT watches, handcrafted by local watch lovers who seek to refine the modern wrist watch with a crownless timepiece, and more. kapok crew life | visiting FREITAG lab at zurich !
kidd, manager of our k11 shop in hong kong, went to switzerland for vacation last month. as kapok crew, she was invited to explore the world's one and only Freitag lab in zurich!!! this is where all the FREITAG bags are designed from scratch – from washing the collected truck tarps, cutting up, designing to product shooting. let’s take a peep on how FREITAG is made.
as many of you may know, FREITAG was started by markus and daniel freitag in 90s. inspired by the multicolour heavy traffic that rumbled through the zurich transit intersection in front of their flat, they developed a messenger bag from used truck tarpaulins, discarded bicycle inner tubes and car seat belts. this is how the first FREITAG bags took shape in the living room of their shared apartment – each one recycled, each one unique.
so what’s this lab for?
until now, there are already 170 f-workers. the five tarp buyers will hunt down the best tarps in the hottest colours everywhere everyday. all the truck tarps collected will be sent to this FREITAG lab for further process.
✔ cutting tarps : carve prime cuts into standardized 7.8-foot pieces
✔ washing up : they even use rainwater to clean up the tarps (FREITAG philosophy : thinking and acting in cycles!)
✔ bag design : use their templates and cutters to designs from the tarps by hand. to make sure that the rest of the pieces match as well, their templates are always marked with the model code and number of tarps to make (i.e. f17_1/7)
✔ finishing : except prototypes, all the sewing will be exported to experienced partners in switzerland, czech republic, bulgaria, france, portugal and tunisia to finish. afterwards, all the products will go back to switzerland and to be distributed in a crate according to the secret FREITAG color scheme. this is to make sure every drop of FREITAG exported is well-balanced in color and style.
✔ shooting : then it’s done! products are upload to online and distributed to partners like kapok!
check out more details of the lab at this link: https://www.freitag.ch/en/about/production
if you are new to FREITAG, we highly recommend you to visit our flagship store at NDC to try this amazing, fun and sustainable brand. we are sure you will soon be part of the f-community like us ! (more…)

jade & sandstone | Matter's iching collection
a book of changes and one of the oldest chinese classics, the latest collection from Matter is inspired by the timeless significance of iching. like the yin and yang, it is a process of change traditionally used to guide decisions. even now, many still find meaning in its readings.
expressed in a pattern of 8 trigrams, the rigid symbols of water and fire were taken and adapted into a more spontaneous form - much like how we imagined the intended writings to be.
as the interpretation goes, fire is unwavering and water is carefree. the two oppose yet balance each other. this is paralleled in the fabrics used in this collection: through the structure of organic cotton and flow of crepe silk. discover the collection in kapok at NDC. (more…)

[kapok event] Lost Guides Singapore book launch party
"i'm drawn to small and intimate places, where the owner might greet you at the door, and you can feel their hard work and passion running through every aspect of the business.
i've met a silversmith hidden away in a second floor flat on the east coast pounding out chunky wedding rings, seen a field full of birds singing in their cages on top of lofty poles in kebun baru, eaten modern singapore cuisine in an old black and white house in a tropical garden, and wandered through a lush jungle with monkeys swinging from branch to branch."
anna, travel guru & author of Lost Guides.
join us this thursday, 6.30pm for the book launch party! local eats by Tanuki Raw[ and speak with the book collaborators to learn about the hidden secrets our island has to offer. (more…)
