Our colleague Ricky, who works in the mobile developer team, has always loved video games such as World of Warcraft, Dota and League of Legends. He got to “level up” when he worked with students from Yu Neng Primary School to create The Mighty Savers app that helps teach basic financial literacy concepts to kids.
Interacting with the young students exposed Ricky to new ways of thinking.
“It was the first time I worked closely with kids, talking to them, understanding them, teaching them, and also learning from them. Being from another generation means they have a very different way of thinking. They approached problems from angles that we would not have thought of, and how they think as they code is also quite fascinating.”
That’s not all. Creating games for others has always been Ricky’s childhood dream. The Mighty Savers app was his first creation, and since then, he’s also come up with a prototype for a digital “Piggybank”, where parents can reward children for completing various tasks by topping up their piggybanks via an app.
