Fun fact: Our retina’s network of blood vessels is not entirely genetically determined, so retinal scanners can be used for identification and authentication purposes even for identical twins!

The retina is the back part of our eye that senses light and sends a visual signal to our brain – through an examination of the retina, we are also able to pick up the first signs of problems such as diabetes and hypertension, as our retina exposes some blood vessels in our body without invasive techniques.

You might expect something as saucy as this to be very rich in flavour, but for someone who is extremely salt-sensitive, I found this Braised Fish Maw Rice with Crab Claw surprisingly balanced & lovely.

SG Braised Rice 十格捞饭 is located in Food Opera in B4 of ION Orchard Shopping Centre-- you might think it's crazy to pay this much for food in a food court. But if you think about it, this kind of price for restaurant quality food - it's a real steal. Fun fact: The folks behind this stall are the ones who also run Thai Village Restaurant.

The thickness of the sauce helps keep everything super hot, so don't start shoving things in your mouth & burn your tongue. Take time to savour this dish. The fish maw wasn't overcooked & still retained its bouncy texture. The crab meat was firm & tasty, & I like how it comes peeled already so I can nibble at it with a fork & spoon instead of having to get my hands dirty.

Overall, this was a great meal & I'd like to return to see how the other dishes fare. With premium items like scallops, prawns, abalone (!!), eel & Wagyu beef on the menu, this seems like it'd be right up my alley 😉 Prices range from $6.80 (nett) to $18.80 (nett) & yes, they accept credit cards. Remember to return your tray after use! (more…)
