"Through traditions, we can discover beauty and creativity, and in return, we're rewarded with inspiration. Traditions also teach us, allow us to explore, and (even for just a moment) connect us to another part of the world."
"Ever since I started this journey, as much as possible I would reduce the wastage to a minimum and would try to change my design to suit, to be in a good flow on how I could save fabrics and be more responsible to the environment.” - Lionel, a designer we're working with to create more unisex pieces.

Indigo blue from the indigo plant. Traditionally used by weavers across the country, indigo dye was a common option as it is free from harsh chemicals and toxic metals. Dyed naturally with the indigo plant, The Sideswept Dhoti + Handloom Indigo is woven by our artisan partners at Dastkar Andhra. #ChangeBeyondTextiles
The blockprinting process for the freeform Chapa motif is unique to its own - instead of setting guidelines for the arrangement of the prints, like we normally do, we encouraged our artisan partners to find the freedom to choose their own placements. The novelty is in its individuality and every piece is a mark of their creative expression. #ChangeBeyondTextiles
Working mostly with artisans who were taught their skill by the generations before them, most of our partners grew up around the knowledge of their craft and later become small family businesses. Khushiram, a fifth generation blockprinter, started his own business and named it after his father who taught him how to blockprint. This is his latest investment: a workshop space filled with sewing units, built with the intention to train other women to sew and sustain their economic freedom. #ChangeBeyondTextiles

Block printing, which was invented to record history, employs similar techniques used in linocut, where a design is carved into a linoleum surface to create a negative mould.
