Aye Wee, our Head of Learning and Development at OCBC Campus, proudly wears the badge of 'Miss Versatility'.
She started her professional life frying donuts before joining the airline industry and then finally joining us in 2008. Over the last 8 years, she’s jumped into and succeeded in many different departments. When asked, Aye Wee shared that she’s never afraid to jump into uncharted waters because she believes in being able to learn on her feet: “I’m someone who enjoys learning and I want to inspire other people to do the same. I could never do the same thing every day. I think I would be horrified because I love new challenges.”
Her curious and flexible nature comes from her upbringing. “My mum often shared a Teochew phrase that means ‘with great gumption, get going’. I have that ingrained in me, as I saw that spirit in my mum. My grandma was a tailor and when she set up her own shop, my mum did door to door sales when she was just 9 years old. So I think I have the same kind of spirit.”
While it’s tempting to focus solely on the price, it’s also important to think about value. For example, a PC that costs 10% more may be worth getting if it helps you get your work done 30% faster. Similarly, a well-made jacket that costs a bit more may be worth getting if it keeps you warmer and lasts longer than a cheaper one. (more…)
Meet Pei Qin, who works with us in Trade Finance Operations.
According to Pei Qin, one of the interesting aspects about her job is being able to get hands-on experience with new technology: ”Because I deal with projects I get a lot of exposure to new technology in the market when vendors come down to pitch their innovations, such as the Blockchain application, where I got to test the demo end-to-end as a user.”
Although she loves testing new technology, Pei Qin prefers to play with older technology outside of work. She especially enjoys spending her time playing old school games with her family and friends. “I like to play Super Mario with my friends. I have a wii, the old one, specifically for this game. Although I can’t play this game properly, I feel a sense of satisfaction when I manage to somehow stay alive. Also, it allows players to help one another overcome obstacles together so no one gets left behind, often using very creative methods. I also connect with my dad using the game battleship.”
Despite her love for multi-player games, Pei Qin wouldn’t classify herself as a gamer. She says that to her, games are more of a tool for bonding with her loved ones, instead of one for entertainment.
